无门关 林钰堂

至道无门人自关,逆习解结路渐宽;
摸索入处终不获,妄求息时即到家。

禅人欲叩无门关,不经摸索无从过,百般摸索终不得。退后、退后!放下、放下!

Gateless Pass Yutang Lin

The ultimate path being gateless, people shut themselves in.
Undoing knots against habit, road gradually widens.
Groping for an entrance, eventually it is unattainable.
The moment deluded seeking ceases, home already.

Comment:

A Chan practitioner attempts to go beyond the gateless pass. Without groping there is no way to pass it; however one tries it is ultimately unattainable. Step back, step back! Let go, let go!
