In Absence of Antagonism

Yutang Lin

Realizing one's minuteness, cease to criticize others;
Awakening to impermanence, stop senseless wastes.
Single-mindedly wishing all to do well in every way;
Clarity and compassion dawn along the Dharma path.

Comments:

Realizing how little and insignificant we know, one dares not criticize others. Awakening to impermanence, one is alarmed by the swift and incontrollable changes in all things, and consequently would not waste energy on matters beyond repair. Thus staying away from entanglements and antagonisms, and, in addition, following Buddha's teachings to engage in Dharma practices and services with the single-minded aspiration that wishes all to do well in every way, then gradually one will experience the dawn of a clear and compassionate mind.
