Universal Wish

Yutang Lin

Who could figure out all the roots of things past?
One simple wish in response to whatever comes.
Soon attain full enlightenment to help all beings.
In merciful and equal view dissolve tanglements.

Comments:

Indulging in reflection over past favors and grudges would render one's view narrow and mind closed. Consequently, one would feel depressed and yet unable to free oneself from such depression. With compassion for sentient beings' sufferings one constantly thinks of merciful helps; therefore, based on Bodhicitta I equally and universally wish that each and every sentient being would soon attain full enlightenment so as to rescue all the rest. Abiding by this attitude to live in the world would naturally evaporate thoughts on favors or grudges, and instead enable one to enjoy the remaining lifetime through simplicity and active participation.
