Tidal Sounds

Yutang Lin

Rising again after a short break, thus incessantly.
As soon as it rose up it faded away, no brief stay.
Let it comes and goes, listen along all the way.
Gradually realize clarity prevails without bounds.

Comment:

The key point of the Dharma practice through hearing lies in listening to the rising and fading of sounds with an unoccupied and quiet mind. Thus one would realize that sounds are ungraspable. Gradually one would further comprehend that the clarity, which is independent of the presence or absence of sounds, is originally without blocks, without bounds; consequently one's mind would expand with such awareness, and no longer be limited by experiences derived through senses.

For the Dharma practice through hearing one could listen to tidal sounds or any incessantly repetitive sound.
