Great Buddha Rebuilt

Yutang Lin

There were two monumental Buddha statues in the Bamiyan Valley of Afghanistan. Unfortunately, in March of 2001 they were destroyed. Venerable Upasaka Ming-tian Cai, the chairman of Kuching Buddhist Society at Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia had the wisdom vision and Bodhi aspiration to rebuild a monumental statue of Sakyamuni Buddha in the Bamiyan Buddha style, reaching the height of 130 feet, at the Buddhist New Village of the Kuching Buddhist Society so as to exhibit the efforts of Buddhists in preserving Dharma in the world. After several years of planning and construction, now the statue is completely erected. Venerable Cai obtained rebirth in the Pureland a few days ago and left his meritorious deeds and accomplishments for us to admire and imitate.
